For the archives:

This turned out to be a case of a patched version of 2.4.4 on machine and an 
unpatched version on the other. 2.4.4 has a known bug with the stemming feature, 
which was fixed in 2.4.5.

This was all resolved on #swish-e at irc.freenode.net but I didn't want an 
open-ended thread in the mail archive.
