Yes, it is a web based application.
The documents are stored on a Windows machine and protected at a File
level. The users who can access the documents are defining in an
active directory server.
When one of the users log in the web application, where he can
make some search queries, i should return to him only the files
for which he has some rights. That's my goal.

You don't really supply enough information to answer. But, say you have
developed an application someone runs after logging in. Then in perl,
you want to see if the current user can read a file:
if ( !-r $file )
show_message("Sorry you cannot read the file. Reason: $!");
If it's a web-based application then that won't work for individual
(with different permissions) since all requests are as the web server
Can you provide a few details, like what platform this is running?
